Peter Barrett donates Furling Sail at Sunset Oil Painting to the United States Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association

November 21, 2008 | New London, CT

Donation to U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association

At a meeting of the USCGAA Board of Directors Peter Barrett presented an original oil painting, Furling Sail at Sunset, to the Alumni Association. A graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy in 1971, Peter was honored to have been asked to donate one of his paintings. In selecting a subject he wanted to paint something that all alums could relate to. Every Cadet has spent time on the training Bark Eagle and has been aloft furling sails. This painting was inspired by a photograph taken by then Cadet First Class, Daniel Miller, now an Ensign in the United States Coast Guard.

Valued at $4,000, Furling Sail at Sunset is hung proudly on a wall outside the Alumni administrative offices in the Alumni Building.
